"QUANTOIDS"
After a visit to St. Peter's in the Vatican, I was drawn to the structure of the great dome. As I drew the ribs and oculus, I began to notice the potential for an optical illusion combining the worm's-eye and bird's-eye views.
The resulting paintings reveal an impossible object: a two dimensional depiction that can't be realized in three dimensions.
I named this illusion "quantoid" since for me it provides a visual metaphor for the confusing nature of quantum behavior -- an ocular portal between two dimensions.
My own quantoid has no relationship to the mathematical term and was copyrighted in 2007.
